Changing what’s possible takes all of us.

At MUSC, we are as bold as we are compassionate – and we refuse to compromise on something as important as your health. We are on an ambitious journey to drive innovation, unlock human potential and ensure that breakthrough care includes endless caring. We serve every county in South Carolina, and our work fuels new thinking and solutions that better our communities and the world.

This is a challenge that is bigger than any of us as individuals, but not bigger than all of us working together. This is why we work collectively and collaboratively. Our research is a catalyst that sparks academic excellence and turns students into caregivers who deliver breakthrough treatments. Research, education and patient care are all intertwined at MUSC and by moving forward as one, we can amplify our impact. It means that no one fights disease alone; every child has healthy options; innovations lead to treatments; theories become practice; and healthy patients lead to healthier communities.

Pioneering Innovation and Research

At MUSC, entrepreneurial activity is gaining momentum, fueled by new training programs, expanded innovation space and the launch of two investment funds that help early-stage life sciences companies overcome capital barriers. This growth has led to record levels of invention disclosures and commercialization deals, along with national recognition for scientific breakthroughs – including three MUSC technologies ranked among the nation’s top 10 most innovative CAR T advancements.

Plans are underway to establish a new AI Center for Health Innovation and Informatics – an enterprise hub to coordinate and accelerate the responsible use of artificial intelligence across health care, research, education and operations. This center will serve faculty, clinicians, trainees, researchers, staff and external collaborators.

Growing to Serve All South Carolinians

In a rapidly evolving health care landscape, MUSC is leading with purpose and meeting the needs of the communities it serves. In the past seven years, the institution has experienced unprecedented growth – reaching all 46 South Carolina counties, expanding access to care in rural and underserved areas and creating new educational and training opportunities for students and resident physicians.

Accelerated growth across the state reflects MUSC’s continued commitment to meeting the health care needs of all South Carolinians.

In 2025, the MUSC Health Jean and Hugh K. Leatherman Behavioral Care Pavilion opened in Florence, significantly expanding access to behavioral health services in the region. Three additional medical pavilions opened in the Charleston area, increasing access to critical services for area residents, while Hollings Cancer Center extended care to Hilton Head Island and surrounding communities.

Construction is well underway on the MUSC Health Nexton Medical Center in neighboring Berkeley County, along with a new outpatient ambulatory cancer facility on the same campus.

In Lancaster County, a 62,000-square-foot medical center and a 50-bed hospital are expected to be completed in 2026 and 2027, respectively.

Plans for a $1 billion comprehensive cancer center in downtown Charleston have been finalized, with completion anticipated in 2030.
