Synopsis: This presentation will explore health disparities and barriers to healthcare experienced by autistic individuals and introduce the medical and social models of disability and neurodiversity paradigm as frameworks for understanding these challenges. The SAFE (Supporting Access for Everyone) Initiative will be discussed as a framework for improving healthcare experiences. Participants will learn practical strategies for patient-centered communication and individualized environmental and procedural accommodations to support autistic patients during healthcare encounters.
