Charleston, S.C. (June 16, 2026) – The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) has been recognized among the world’s leading academic institutions in the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities rankings, earning a ranking of No. 520 worldwide and No. 117 in the United States. A total of 2,346 institutions in 105 countries were considered, with 2,250 being ranked, placing MUSC in the top quartile worldwide.
MUSC was recognized across 13 ranked research disciplines, reflecting the University’s breadth of expertise and continued impact in scientific discovery, education and patient care.
The annual rankings evaluate universities based on research performance, global reputation and academic influence, highlighting institutions with strong impact across disciplines and international collaboration.

MUSC’s performance in the rankings reflects continued progress across a broad range of research fields, including cardiac and cardiovascular systems, neuroscience and behavior, cell biology, public health and oncology, underscoring the University’s expanding impact in scholarship and translational research.
