December 03, 2025

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Dec. 3, 2025) – MUSC Health leadership, faculty and staff celebrated the completion of the MUSC Health West Ashley Medical Pavilion Phase III, which will bring additional heart and vascular, musculoskeletal and digestive health services to West Ashley, significantly enhancing surgical and specialty care capabilities.

“This expansion transforms patient care and underscores our commitment to providing exceptional care closer to home, improving convenience and reducing the burden on downtown facilities,” said Patrick Cawley, M.D., CEO of MUSC Health and executive vice president for Health Affairs, University.

For the first time, outpatient cardiac and electrophysiology procedures will be available at an MUSC Health ambulatory facility, with the introduction of a shared catheterization and electrophysiology laboratory. Patients will no longer need to travel downtown for these procedures, a change that eases stress and greatly enhances convenience.

Additionally, the number of operating rooms will increase from two to five, nearly tripling capacity for orthopedic procedures, including total joint surgeries. This growth also introduces total wrist surgery with nationally recognized expertise. A third endoscopy suite is being added, which will boost capacity by 50% for gastrointestinal procedures.

Other expanded services include spine surgery (orthopedic and neurosurgical), pain management, vascular and vein procedures and 23-hour observation beds for extended recovery cases. Services will be open to patients on Dec. 8.
