In compliance with the "Timely Warning" provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 the MUSC Department of Public Safety is giving notice of an ongoing threat to personal property thefts on campus:

Recently there has been an increase in the number of personal property thefts from the James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine, 29 Bee Street, Charleston, SC. MUSC has experienced five separate incidents of theft reported within the past six week of personal property being stolen from unattended rooms in the building. Take the time to protect yourself from theft!

MUSC Department of Public Safety recommends that community members ALWAYS:

-Keep personal items locked up and out of sight.

-Personal property; purses, briefcases, backpacks, cell phones, laptop computers or any other electronic devise etc. should never be left unattended.

-Record the serial numbers of your valuables.

-Engrave valuables with your license number.

-Secure the work area when no one is in it.

-Do not prop card reader doors.

-Do not allow strangers to follow you into the building after hours.
-Call the Department of Public Safety if you see someone in the building who does not belong.

-Report any suspicious individuals you see in the area immediately to the Department of Public Safety by utilizing one of the many emergency call boxes on campus to contact police dispatchers or call directly at 792-4196. Provide the dispatcher with a description of the individual(s) to include clothing, what you observed them doing, the location where you saw them and the direction they were going.

Contact the Crime Prevention Office at 792-1070 or 792-2261 with any questions, comments, or concerns.
