Adventure Out! - Outdoor Fitness Campaign
Adventure Out is a month-long outdoor fitness campaign to encourage residents to visit county parks for exercise. Exercising outdoors or "green exercise" has many additional benefits to indoor fitness activities, including stress management, improved self-esteem and mood, increased frequency of exercise, and improved sense of well-being.
For the month of May, the best fitness instructors at MUSC Wellness Center will pair up with the prettiest landscapes in Charleston County parks to entice you to get moving in the great outdoors. The Adventure Out program features more than 25 offerings, including aqua, Zumba dance, yoga and martial arts to help you turn over a new leaf and discover the benefits of green exercise.
When: The whole month of May - more than 25 free fitness activities to pick from with the purchase of an Adventure Out T-shirt ($10). Classes include sunrise yoga, beach sculpting, family games, Tae Bo, interval conditioning classes, trail running lessons and more. The T-shirt also gives you free park admission when attending a class.
Where: Offered in Charleston County parks (James Island, Palmetto Island, Wannamaker, Folly Beach Pier, IOP Beach Park)
MUSC Adventure Out Launch Party: May 1st from 11am - 1pm at the Horseshoe - food trucks, fitness class mini-sessions, Climbing Wall and more!
Adventure Out Family Fitness Day: The kickoff event will be May 4, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. - at James Island County Park (Wappoo Pavilion and Stage) with food trucks, jump castles, Zumba, family fun fitness games and more.
How: Purchase t-shirts in the horseshoe on Wednesday, April 3 from 11am - 1pm. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for additional times and locations. For MUSC Employees and students only - purchase a gold pass from April 3 - May 31 and receive one free t-shirt. Additional shirts may be purchased.
Why: Because research shows outdoor or "green exercise" delivers powerful health benefits and the Medical University of South Carolina and the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission want to make it easier for you to use the outdoors to be healthier.
