The MUSC Healthcare Simulation Center provides educational support services to all university colleges and the hospital authority, which includes a full range of disciplines and specialties. Educational support offerings range from basic skills training on partial task trainers to high fidelity, competency-based simulation activities. Since opening the facility in June 2008, there have been over 360 courses developed that have resulted in over 64,000 student encounters, 130,000 simulations, 70,000 training hours. In addition, over 3,000 tours and demonstrations have been conducted. The center has also received several accolades including the Laerdal Center of Educational Excellence endorsement, the American College of Surgeons (ACS), and the American Society of Anesthesiologist accreditations, as well as a Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) designated testing site.
