In recognition of the critical role that it plays in biomedical research across many disciplines, MUSC has made a significant investment in structural biology, starting with the establishment of a facility for X-ray crystallography in 2001 and followed by a major expansion and enhancement of facilities for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy (NMR) in 2006. A Protein Science Laboratory that overproduces proteins for structural and functional studies was also established in 2006.
These resources are organized as part of the MUSC Center for Structural Biology, directed by Christopher Davies, Ph.D. Most of its facilities and associated staff are located on the first and second floors of the Drug Discovery Building.
