Bike Month activities: mark your calendar
-- May 13: Public Forum on Mobility in Charleston at 7 pm in the Charleston Music Hall. We're joining with the Historic Charleston Foundation, the City of Charleston and CARTA to host a panel discussion of experts on transportation policy; for details visit www.charlestonmoves.org
-- May 14: Downtown Street Team Gathering. Join us on the Royal American patio at 7 p.m. for our first ever downtown Street Team gathering. Come share your concerns and ideas - and allow us to update you on our latest projects.
-- May 14: Yes You Can! Boosting Bike Commuting Confidence Workshop. Join us for a hands-on happy hour at the Bicycle Shoppe downtown from 5:30 - 6:30 pm for tips from some local experts on how to commute by bike safely and efficiently. A "must-attend" if you plan to take part in Bike to Work Day (see below).
-- May 16: Bike to Work Day! Pack a change of clothes, hop on your bike instead of into your car, and look for morning coffee stops for commuters in West Ashley, downtown and Mount Pleasant. More details coming! Also join us at Bay Street Biergarten for a Bike from Work Happy Hour, 5 - 6:30 pm and cheers to your good deed for the day.
-- May 16 & 30: Midnight Mystery Rides, hosted by the Blue Collar Bandits. Meet in Marion Square at the corner of King and Calhoun at 11:30 pm and be ready for a mystery ride around town with your new, hip best friends.
-- May 21: Ride of Silence. Join us in Hampton Park at 7 pm for a silent, police-escorted ride around town to honor those who have lost their lives while cycling.
-- May 25: 3rd annual Blessing of the Bikes. 9 am in Marion Square, open to all faiths. Sponsored by the Office of Cultural Affairs and numerous Charleston congregations.
-- May Farmers' Markets: Find us at the downtown (Marion Square) Farmers' Market on Saturday May 3 and 17. We'll also be at the Mount Pleasant (Moultrie Middle School) Farmers' Markets on Tuesdays throughout the month. We'll have local bike experts on hand to teach bike safety and maintenance.
