MUSC Department of Public Safety cautions students about moped thefts:
In compliance with the "Timely Warning" provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, MUSC Department of Public Safety is providing the following notice of an ongoing threat to property on campus:
Between Sept. 19 and Sept. 25, two unsecured mopeds were stolen from bike racks near the James W. Colbert Education Center & Library, 171 Ashley Avenue. Whether it is a bicycle or moped, the Department of Public Safety recommends that community members properly secure their property and to use "U" type bicycle locks in lieu of the more common cable locks, as cable locks are easier for thieves to defeat.
If you see any suspicious activity around campus bike racks, especially the cutting of any locks, please contact the MUSC Department of Public Safety immediately or utilize one of the many emergency call boxes on campus to contact police dispatchers directly.
Should you see any suspicious individuals on campus, please contact the Department of Public Safety immediately at 843-792-4196.
