January is National Blood Donor Month, a time when the Red Cross recognizes and thanks the millions of dedicated donors across the country for helping ensure a stable blood supply for patients in need. Since 1970, Blood Donor Month has been celebrated in an effort to educate Americans about the importance of regular blood donation. Every day, about 44,000 pints of blood are needed in the U.S. to help treat cancer patients, trauma victims, organ transplant recipients, other surgery patients, premature babies and sickle cell disease patients.

All blood types are currently needed, and there is an urgent need for types O- and B-.

Type O- is the universal blood types, and can be transfused to patients with any blood type.

Type B- can be transfused to patients with Rh positive negative type B blood types.

Please make your appointment today at www.redcrossblood.org

Click "Account Login" at the top of the page, then click "Donor Login". The sponsor code is Harborview.

It will be held from 12p-5p on the Bloodmobile in front of Harborview Office Tower.
