Elevator Out of Service - Jonathan Lucas Street Patient Parking Garage

Office of Parking Management 792-3665

As a result of increasingly more frequent elevator down time due to aging equipment, a project to modernize the handicap accessible elevator(#39) in the Jonathan Lucas Street patient parking garage is being undertaken by Parking Management.

The project will begin on January 14 and continue for six to eight weeks. During this time, the garage will not be accessible to patients and visitors who have a mobility impairment requiring the use of a wheel chair, crutches, walkers or other mobility devices. This is because access to and from the remaining garage elevator (on the Roper side of the garage) requires the negotiation of a number of steps between the elevator lobby and the sidewalk on Jonathan Lucas Street.

Services for able-bodied individuals and individuals with disabilities that are not mobility related who park in the garage will not be interrupted. Customers will be directed through interior garage signage to the elevator that is in service, and stairwells are serviceable. It is the relatively smaller group of mobility-impaired individuals who will be affected and about whom we are concerned.

Electronic messaging will be utilized at the entrance to the garage to inform patients and visitors, and information for alternate parking solutions will be available.

This is a challenging situation, but the project is essential and the result will be improved and strengthened patient and visitor parking services.

Please share this information with hospital and clinic staff who interact with patients and visitors. Call us if more information is needed or if we can be of assistance in any way.
