People Against Rape Seeking Volunteers Willing to Work with Victims
Shaquana Grant 843-745-0144 email@example.com
Rape victims in Charleston are in desperate need and you can do something about it. In the hours after the trauma of rape, victims need someone to stand with them. That is what we do at People Against Rape (PAR), South Carolina's oldest rape crisis center. However, due to recent financial difficulties, our ability to care for rape victims in their hour of need has been significantly compromised. So, we are asking for your help.
You can make a difference in helping rape victims after their assault. Currently, the basic victim services that PAR provides (ER accompaniment and responding to crisis calls and referrals for adult victims of sexual assault) are being met by an all volunteer corp of trained advocates. The problem is we need more volunteer advocates, especially for daytime, weekday hours. Volunteer advocates take crisis calls and accompany victims through the evidentiary exam at MUSC's ER (ED).
PAR will provide the necessary training in two, four hour, training sessions to be held on January 26 and 27, from 9:00am to 3:30 pm. If you, or someone you know, is able to devote one to two monthly time slots (of between 4, 8, or 12 hours), we would love to talk with you about PAR's activities in greater detail. There is a $20 fee for training materials and a SLED check.
Please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to obtain more information about this important volunteer opportunity. We are also interested in developing a cadre of advocates who speak Spanish and have flexible schedules. Please feel free to disseminate this to anyone you know who may be interested in volunteering their time for this very worthy cause.
