An exhibit titled "Century of Cigarettes" is now on display in the MUSC Library on the 2nd floor. The 20-foot walk-through exhibit examines the history of tobacco consumption in the United States from the beginning of the 20th century, providing a glimpse into the forces that helped influence the sale of cigarettes.
"Since 1964, nearly 20 million Americans have died from smoking," said K. Michael Cummings, PhD, MPH, Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences. "This display brings into focus the evolution of tobacco use and marketing through the decades, and the impact that those campaigns had on smokers."
The exhibit, jointly sponsored by MUSC and Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY, travels to various professional conferences and venues including ASPO, AACR and the National Conference on Tobacco or Health. More information on the exhibit can be found at www.tobaccotimeline.org.
