Who is eligible to use it?
All MUSC employees are eligible. Students are considered employees when they are parking on campus while working. What if I’m held over after 8:30 a.m.? Occasionally employees are held over due to unexpected circumstances. If you cannot leave the garage until after 8:30 a.m., call your vehicle in to Parking Management. When actually leaving the garage, exit by way of the attendant booth. Your access card will not activate the gate after 8:30 a.m. and the attendant’s assistance will be required to open the gate. Do I have to register for the program? Yes. Every employee and student who wishes to park in the after-hours program even if weekends only, is required to display an after-hours hang tag on their vehicle while it is in the garage and to obtain a parking access card. Registrants need to present their MUSC ID’s and their state vehicle registration certificates (or copy) at the time of registration with the Office of Parking Management (OPM). How much does it cost? Parking is free. An annual registration fee and a refundable access card fee is payable at the time of registration for employees who are not already registered in the reserved parking system and/or who do not already have an access card. The access card fee will be refunded at the time of cancellation and return of the card. The registration fee covers the cost of the hangtag and assists with other operating expenses associated with the privilege of using the garage. Why is there a cost involved? The MUSC parking system is not supported by state appropriations. The cost of operating, maintaining, repairing, and expanding the system as well as retiring any parking facility debt service must be met by fees charged to the users of the system. When is annual re-registration? The parking year runs from October 1 to September 30. You will re-register during the month of September. Parking Management will send out a general broadcast message as a reminder prior to the start of renewal. What about parking in patient areas? Employees are not authorized to park in patient parking areas. Except under the provisions of the after-hours program. (Note: employees may park in patient areas when they are themselves a patient or visitor.) What about security? Public Safety officers regularly patrol the garage. Additional coverage is provided by regular police ride through. Paparssive security features include a CCTV system, good lighting, and open stairwells. For parking assistance and information contact the MUSC Office of Parking Management, 91 President Street (second floor of the employee parking garage), telephone 792-3665, fax 792-6195. |
