The Chief Facilities Officer provides oversight and leadership for facilities related activities including construction, renovation, repair, maintenance, utilities management, planned renewal, recycling and waste stream reduction, landscaping and housekeeping services, data management and record drawings, central supply, and fiscal management. John joined the Medical University in 1998 as the Assistant Director of Engineering and became the Chief Facilities Officer in 2001. He is a registered professional engineer with over 30 years of design, construction and facilities management experience. He received his under graduate engineering degree from the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut and his Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana, Illinois. | Business Management (budgeting, purchasing, billing, sustainability & recycling) Design and Construction (project management, construction inspection, contract administration, and drafting) Facilities Operations (maintenance shops, in-house construction, zone maintenance, and planned renewal) Quality Management (landscaping and housekeeping services, quality improvement, and special projects |
The 315 plus employees within Engineering and Facilities are responsible for maintaining more than 160 buildings totaling about 7.8 million square feet and located on 64 acres of land. We manage a wide range of maintenance, renovation, and improvement activities for existing facilities, oversee all aspects of new construction for the University, and provide leadership in sustainability which includes recycling and waste stream reduction, utilities management, and planned renewal. Our Unit is organized within four departments: Business Management, Design and Construction, Facilities Operations and Quality Management. | |
