From Professor Alvaro Pascual-Leone:
The course is designed as an introduction to TMS and rTMS for beginners, intermediate, and advanced users. There will be formal lectures on history, physics, technical aspects, clinical and research applications of TMS/rTMS. Hands-on demosntrations of all currently available magnetic stimulators will be conducted in small groups. Video demonstrations will illustrate laboratory set-ups, TMS complications, and experimental designs with TMS, providing ample opportunity for informal interaction between faculty and course participants. Guidelines for drafting TMS/rTMS study protocols and IRB applications will be reviewed in a panel session. The aim of the course is to provide participants with a complete overview of technical principles and mechanisms of action of single-pulse and repetitive TMS as well as clinical and research applications. Course participants will acquire the necessary information to be able to judge the possibilities that TMS would offer in their own research and clinical work, and have sufficient knowledge to start using TMS independently.
