This book is the result of the contributions presented during the workshop on magnetic stimulation, held October 30, 1996, in connection with the 18th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS), Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The topics of the workshop included a review of theory, and an overview of new technical developments, new understandings of the mechanism of magnetic stimulation, and new neurophysiological findings. Since magnetic stimulation is increasingly used with other devices, a review of imaging modalities such as MEG was provided.
