Division of Pediatric Surgery

Welcome to the division of Pediatric surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. Thank you for choosing our pediatric surgery team and the MUSC Children's Hospital to care for your child. Our staff of surgeons, residents, physician assistants, nurses, anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, and child life specialists will provide expert care, ensuring that this experience is a very good one for your child and family. We will do everything possible to earn your trust and confidence by making your time here safe, comfortable and positive. We are committed to providing the best possible care to infants and children in need of our expertise.

Our division of Pediatric Surgery at MUSC was established more than 40 years ago under the leadership of Dr. H. Biemann Othersen. The division has been recognized for its innovative patient care initiatives and significant contributions to the field of children's surgery. Over the years, many new and advanced surgical techniques were developed by surgeons in our division and passed-on to residents and surgeons in-training. We have always been supportive of the educational mission of the medical center and many of our general surgical residents have become successful pediatric surgeons. We strive for excellence in teaching and patient care.

The division of Pediatric Surgery is now under the leadership of Dr. André Hebra, a former graduate of MUSC who obtained his training in Pediatric Surgery at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Hebra is a pioneer in the field of minimal access pediatric and robotic surgery and his dynamic leadership combined with excellence in patient care is poised to take the pediatric surgical services at MUSC to a new level of achievement and recognition.
