Background

US News Best Hospitals

In Early July the U.S. News and World Report annouced that two to the Department of Medicine Divisions have earned rankings in their annual listing of the "Best Hospitals in the United States". The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology earned 21st place in Digestive Diseases, while the Division of Rheumatology and Immunology earned 24th place.

MUSC Hospital Expansion

The procedure-based, phase-one Hospital Expansion will serve as a comprehensive facility for cardiovascular and digestive disease patient populations. This building will contain 156 beds, 9 operating rooms, 4 cath labs, 3 EP labs, 9 endoscopic procedure rooms, outpatient clinics and a full array of advanced imaging equipment to support a 21st century medical center.

The Medical University is a leader in providing tertiary/quaternary health services for citizens in the State.   The increasing demand for clinical services because of this state's aging population has outpaced the rate of constructing and renovating facilities. Creative approaches to diversifying services, improvements in patient safety, and implementing effective information systems are the highest priority. Success in these approaches will provide South Carolinians expanded access to breakthroughs in diagnosis, prevention and treatment of a wide variety of diseases.

Clinical Service Goals 2006 - 2007

 


Patient Care
Complete implementation of outpatient electronic medical record.

Create three service lines and implement service line management.

Clinical Programs
Recruit new Digestive Disease Center Director.

Expand physician work force by 15-30 MDs.

Facilities and Infrastructure
Complete construction of Phase I new hospital and launch operations.

Implement hospital digital clinical information systems.

Continue planning/financing of Phase II of new hospital.

Continue to pursue Veterans Administration/MUSC joint facility model.

Continue to improve operating financial margin.
