About the Center

The MUSC Simulation Center is an 11,000 square foot multidisciplinary training facility featuring 14 multipurpose simulation rooms. Labor and DeliveryIts mission is to improve the quality of delivered care, promote patient safety, advance the practice and training efficiency of a critically understaffed workforce, and grow to be an international focal point for health sciences education and innovative research in education and safety. The center opened in June of 2008 and within the first 6 months of operation 6300 simulation encounters from 420 simulation sessions for a Difficult Airway Managementtotal utilization of 2440 hours occurred.

John Schaefer, III, MD, the Director and Lewis Blackman Endowed Chair for Clinical Effectiveness and Patient Safety, is a visionary in the field of medical simulation and provides leadership in simulation methodology and course delivery. Under his directive, MUSC participates in a statewide collaborative of similar facilities who share and develop these methodologies. Those partners include USC College of Nursing, Clemson School of Nursing, Greenville Hospital System, and Greenville Technical College.
