Title:  Oral Infection Control for the Elderly with Dementia

Abstract:  This module introduces the definition of dementia and Alzheimer's disease, the basic causes, incidences and risk factors. It describes the stages of Alzheimer's disease and the various steps of dental care needed for patients with dementia. It offers the critical risk management issues of daily debridement and infection control as it applies to the care team. It explains and demonstrates infection control therapy techniques of mouth care for people with dementia who are dentate and edentulous. It identifies some of the common oral problems, resources and adaptive devices that enhance dementia patient oral health care.
