Office of Recycling and Solid Waste Management

Reusing a product really starts at the precycling
phase. You have to buy a product that you can reuse. These products can be maintained and
repaired to insure a longer life. At the end of a products useful life, you should decide
whether to throw it away or recycle it.
Remember: One man's trash is another man's treasure.
R.O.S.E.
Program
Make double
sided copies and avoid using a cover page.
Use
E-mail!!!!!!!
Bring
a coffee cup
or mug from home instead of using paper or Styrofoam cups.
Reuse office
supplies such as paper clips, paper, manila file folders, hanging file folders, and
envelopes.
Reuse butter
tubs and bread bags at home to store leftovers.
Style is a major
factor in determining if you will reuse a product. Try to buy products that never go out
of style.
Paper or
Plastic? Neither! Buy reusable cloth bags for all of your shopping. You can use
these bags at the grocery store, farmers market, or the mall.
Don't waste
food. If you have just attended a big event and there is alot of leftover food, suggest
donating it to the soup kitchen.
Donate old books
to the Charleston County Library for their annual book sale.
Don't throw away
old furniture, clothes, dishes, or glasses. These things could be reused by someone less
fortunate than you. Donate these items to a charity organization like Good Will or the
Kidney Foundation. If you have a big load, they may come to pick it up.
