Step I

 

Go to the SC Board of Nursing Site and review the requirements and download the forms: http://www.llr.state.sc.us/POL/Nursing/INDEX.ASP

Step II

 

Fill out the application for and submit evidence of 45 contact hours in pharmacotherapeuticsand national certification in your specialty area.

 
Step III

 

If you want to write for controlled substances, 15 of the 45 contact hours must be in controlled substance. You must also apply for a state and federal DEA number if you want to write for controlled substances.

 
Step IV

Submit the following to the Medical Staff Office:

  1. A request for increase in privileges.
  2. Copies of state and federal DEA numbers (for controlled substances).
  3. Revised scope of practice documenting the medications.
