The Department of
Public Safetys Honor Guard is a volunteer assignment comprised of eight
sworn, uniformed officers, many with military backgrounds, who are diverse
in gender and rank.The Guards primary responsibility is to honor law enforcement
officers by attending police funerals. Other duties include representing the
Department at public events, memorial services and special requests from other
law enforcement agencies throughout South Carolina.
The Honor Guard was formed in April
2000 after a tragic accident involving a member of the Department. Since then,
the Honor Guard has fulfilled its mission on several occasions by honoring
fallen officers.
The Honor Guard reflects the highest
traditions of Law Enforcement; professionalism, integrity, dignity and respect.
