Program Objectives                                                        back to top

This one-day seminar brings together some of the best scientific and legal minds in our state to present the latest information available on substance abuse and related mental health problems and how the legal system deals with them.  Our goal is to provide the attendees with information to help both personally and professionally in dealing with the difficult issues of alcohol and drug abuse.  The planning committee reviewed comments from participants attending over the past years and looked at issues that are prominent across our country today to help decide the topics for this year’s seminar.  At the completion of the conference participants will be able to:

  • Better understand the dynamics of addiction treatment and the disease concept.
  • Develop an understanding of the ethical and legal dimensions of prescription drug abuse.
  • Integrate knowledge of the civil commitment of sexually violent predators.
  • More effectively deal with privacy issues.
  • Identify various ethical considerations involved in assisting professionals in crisis.
  • Be current on recent controversy in the methamphetamine epidemic.
