Biographical Sketch

Cynthia Cupit Swenson received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from The Florida State University in 1991 and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in child clinical and pediatric psychology at the Medical University of South Carolina. Currently Dr. Swenson is an Associate Professor and the Associate Director of the Family Services Research Center in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences of the Medical University of South Carolina. She is Principal Investigator on an NIMH-funded randomized controlled trial comparing parent training and multisystemic therapy with physically abused adolescents and their families. Dr. Swenson has conducted extensive clinical work with children and families over the last 24 years. She has published many journal articles and book chapters, and a recent book on treatment of physically abused children and their families. Dr. Swenson is currently on the Board of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children.
