Biographical Sketch

Dr. Nahas received his Medical Degree from Saint Joseph University in Lebanon. He then completed an internship in Psychiatry at Institut Paul Silvadon and Hopital Charles Foix in Paris, France. Dr. Nahas moved to Houston, Texas in 1993 as a resident in Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine. He joined MUSC in 1997 where he completed a research fellowship in Functional Neuroimaging and Psychopharmacology and later a Master of Science in Clinical Research. Dr. Nahas is currently an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, the Medical Director of the Brain Stimulation Laboratory and the Director of the newly created Mood Disorder Program at the Institute of Psychiatry. 
 
 
Research Interests

Dr. Nahas' scientific interest lies in translational neuropsychiatric research in mood dysregulation and depressive disorders. His current studies involve investigations of brain stimulation technologies (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, Vagus Nerve Stimulation and Deep Brain Stimulation), functional neuroimaging and basic animal model of depression. In addition, he is actively involved in bridging psychoanalytical concepts and affective neurosciences.
