Kalivas received his B.S. in Biology from Western Washington University and his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Washington. He completed post-doctoral work at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, concentrating on Neuropharmacology. He is co-chair of the Department of Neurosciences with a secondary appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
