Biographical Sketch

Dr Hamner received his medical degree and residency training at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He is board certified in Psychiatry with added qualifications in Geriatric Psychiatry.  He is currently Professor of Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He is also Director of Psychopharmacology Research and Medical Director of the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Clinical Team at the Ralph H. Johnson Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Charleston.

Dr Hamner has been involved as PI on a number of clinical trials including studies in schizophrenia, posttraumatic stress disorder, and mood disorders. Additional research interests include phenomenology, regional brain function, and novel therapeutic approaches in PTSD.  He has lectured extensively on various topics in clinical psychiatry, has approximately 50 peer-reviewed publications, and numerous published abstracts and book chapters.
