Following the completion of this clerkship, the student will be able to:

1.

Conduct a psychiatric interview, which implies:
    a. observation and recognition of psychopathology,
    b. the ability to use appropriate interview techniques, and
    c. the ability to conduct a mental status examination.

2.Correctly diagnose psychiatric disorders, utilizing the DSM-IV multiaxial system.
3.Construct overall treatment plans.
4.Recognize appropriate use of psychopharmacologic agents for patients under his/her care.
5.Accurately conduct and record a mental status exam and write progress notes for every significant contact with his/her patient in the patient’s medical chart.
6.Establish a supportive therapeutic relationship with his/her patient.
7.Summarize and present verbally a psychiatric history and mental status examination.
8.Demonstrate an ability to work with health care personnel.
