Psychiatry Grand Rounds - Learning Objectives

At the completion of this session, the participant should be able to:

1) be familiar with the technique of magnetic resonance spectroscopy and how it can be used to study the neurochemistry related to psychiatric illnesses,

2) review the functions of the GABAergic and glutamatergic neurotransmitter systems and familiar with the potential role of these systems in the pathophysiology of major depression, and

3) summarize several recent studies exploring the potential use of glutamatergic drugs in the treatment of depression.
