        Elizabeth J. Letourneau, Ph.D.

     
SPEAKER BIO
   

Elizabeth J. Letourneau received her Ph.D. in 1995 from Northern Illinois University. Her research and clinical work has focused on the assessment and treatment of sex offenders and she has numerous publications in this area. At present, Dr. Letourneau is an assistant professor at the Family Services Research Center, Medical University of South Carolina where she is directing a randomized clinical trial assessing the effectiveness of Multisystemic Therapy with juvenile sex offenders.

   
OBJECTIVES                                                                                                                                                               
 
        At the completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
       

1)Describe basic components of South Carolina sex offender registration and notification laws,
2)Discuss reasons why these laws might not work, especially with juvenile offenders, and
3)Discuss limits of the empirical data on the effectiveness of these laws.
