        Bryon Adinoff, M.D.

     
SPEAKER BIO
   

Dr. Adinoff is Professor and Distinguished Professorship of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Research in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.  He is also the Chief of the Division on Addictions at the UT Southwestern Medical Center, and a staff psychiatrist at the VA North Texas Health Care System. Dr. Adinoff is the Principle Investigator of the Texas Node of the NIDA-funded Clinical Trials Network, a nationwide infrastructure designed to develop and assess new pharmacological and psychosocial treatments for substance use disorders.  He receives funding from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, and Department of Veterans Affairs.  He has published over 80 articles, reviews, and book chapters on the biology and treatment of addiction, with a focus on neuroendocrine and neurobiologic disruptions following chronic cocaine or alcohol use. 

   
OBJECTIVES                                                                                                                                                               
 
        At the completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
       1) Describe the biologic alterations in stress response observed in alcoholdependent
    subjects,
2) Identify objective measures to assess stress response systems, and
3) Describe the potential clinical significance of disruptions in stress response
    to relapse.
