        Laura Arnstein Carpenter, Ph.D., BCBA

       Asperger's Disorder: Identification and Intervention
     
BIO

Laura Arnstein Carpenter, Ph.D., BCBA, is an assistant professor of Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Dr. Carpenter is a researcher and practicing clinician specializing in autism spectrum disorders. She currently serves as an expert reviewer for a statewide surveillance study of autism spectrum disorders that is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Prior to coming to the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Carpenter earned a Ph.D. degree in clinical psychology from SUNY Binghamton, where she also worked for five years at a private school for children with autism spectrum disorders. In addition to being a licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Carpenter is a board certified behavior analyst. She has published five scholarly articles, seven book chapters, and one book, and has made more than thirty presentations at regional and national scientific conferences. She has taught numerous workshops and classes on autism spectrum disorders and applied behavior analysis.

   
OBJECTIVES                                                                                                                                                               
       At the completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
         1. Identify the various diagnoses on the autism spectrum.
 2. Describe screening instruments for Asperger's disorder.
 3. Explain basic intervention approaches used in Asperger's Disorder.
