For the Faculty
Here you will find viewpoints and links of interest to the faculty. One of the great challenges we face as a faculty is assessing and adapting to information access provided by the Internet. For example, the Internet, by providing global connectivity, gives an underpriviledged student access to virtually the same resources as a Nobel prize winner. Similarly, we are seeing off shore vendors leverage the Internet in order to provide competitive services to US clients. Today, a significant fraction of transcription of medical dictation are performed in India and, with digital imaging, it is not difficult to visualize the emergence of off shore cost competitive services for radiography and pathology image interpretation. I want to start a dialog addressing not only how the Internet impacts our educational and clinical practice paradigms, but also how we can engage faculty and students into building tomorrow's MUSC as we embark on major construction initiatives.
