My general interest lies in cancer biology at the molecular level. Currently, we are working on identifying and characterizing proteins that contribute to epithelial derived tumor metastasis. Metastasis is a complex process that involves malignant cancer cell migration from the tumor to other regions of the body. One of the initial steps in this process is alteration in cell-to-cell adhesion, which is essential for cell migration across the basement membrane. Elucidating the mechanisms whereby cell adhesion molecules regulate migration and invasion is essential in the development of target directed therapeutics that block metastatic potential in cancer patients.
