Hematopathology Fellowship Program

Program

The Medical University of South Carolina, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine offers a one-year fellowship in hematopathology. The program is designed for the fellow to have experience in interpretation of bone marrow aspirates, biopsies, cytochemical staining and cell surface marking using flow cytometry. In addition, rotations in routine hematology, coagulation, cytogenetics and molecular diagnostics laboratories are required. The trainee will be expected to participate in the coagulation consultation service as well as the bone marrow transplantation team. The amount of time spent in each area can be tailored to the applicant's individual needs and desires. The program is designed to provide eligibility for the subspecialty certification in Hematology given by the American Board of Pathology.

Requirements

Four or more years of training in anatomic, clinical or combined anatomic/clinical pathology. Applications should be received by March 1st of the year preceding the year of the fellowship (15 months prior to the beginning of the fellowship).

Stipends

Salary is commensurate with PGY 5 level of postgraduate training.
