Chaplains are in house and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

A chaplain may be contacted at the Medical University Hospital by calling 843.792.0590 /ID 18089 and a chaplain may be called at Ashley River Tower (ART) by calling 843.792.0590 / ID 17265.
The Pastoral Care office is open from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday (843-792-9464).


Rev. Dr. Terry L. Wilson

Clinical Staff Chaplain/Manager

Chaplain Wilson works as a chaplain and manager for the department and its mission. He began his work at MUSC in 1995. Terry completed his undergraduate degree at Mars Hill College, and he holds the Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and his Doctor of Ministry from Erskine Theological Seminary. He completed his clinical pastoral education at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Terry is an ordained Baptist minister and endorsed by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. His pastoral care special interests are in the areas of Theodicy and Ethics.


Rev. Melvin “Mel” Williams

Chaplain Williams works at both MUSC and Charleston Memorial Hospital. He began his work at MUSC in 1994. He has an undergraduate degree from Allen University, and he holds the Master of Divinity from Interdenominational Theological Center (Seminary). He completed his clinical pastoral education at Georgia Retardation Center and Georgia Mental Health Institute in Atlanta. Mel is an ordained African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) minister. His pastoral care interests are in the areas of end of life care for African-Americans and building trust between minority groups, their communities and health care institutions.


Rev. George M. Rossi, BCC

Chaplain Rossi began his work at MUSC in 2001. He completed his undergraduate degree at Our Lady of the Lake University, and he holds the Master of Arts in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and the Master of Divinity from the School of Divinity at Gardner-Webb University. George completed his clinical pastoral education at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital, and he is an ordained Baptist minister who is endorsed by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. His pastoral care interests are in the areas of pastoral care to families, men and grief, and spirituality and mental health relationships. He is a Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) through the Association of Professional Chaplains.


Rev. C. Lynn Brown

Chaplain Brown began her work at MUSC in 2002. She completed her undergraduate degree at Baptist College of Charleston and she holds the Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Lynn completed her clinical pastoral education at Memorial Medical in Savannah, GA and Bon Secours-St. Francis Hospital. She is an ordained Cooperative Baptist Fellowship minister and her pastoral care interests include cardiology and providing end of life care and grief and bereavement workshops.


Rev. Dr. JohnBosco O. Ikemeh, O.P.

Chaplain Ikemeh is a Catholic priest in the Dominican Order. He joined the MUSC pastoral team in September 2006. He completed his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Theology and earned a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He holds a graduate degree in systematic theology from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, California and was conferred a Doctor of Sacred Theology (Systematic Theology) at the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley. Bosco, as he is fondly called, started his Clinical Pastoral Education at California Pacific medical Center, San Francisco and completed it at Roper-St Francis Hospital. His pastoral care interest is in the area of Oncology and the suffering God.


Rev. Chris Brown, BCC

Chris is a Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) through the Association of Professional Chaplains, and he began his work at MUSC in 2007. He completed his undergraduate degree at Erskine College and Master of Divinity at Reformed Theological Seminary. Chris served as a chaplain for hospice before coming to MUSC and he completed a clinical pastoral education residency at Bon Secours-St. Francis Hospital in Charleston. Chris is ordained by the Presbyterian Church in America, and his clinical interests are oncology and end of life care.


Rev. Christopher Amaechi Oranyeli, O.P., BCC

Chaplain Oranyeli is a Roman Catholic Priest of the Dominican Order, Province of Nigeria. He joined the MUSC pastoral care team in 2007. He has an undergraduate degree in pharmacy from Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. He had his formation training at The Dominican House of Studies, St. Thomas Aquinas Priory, Nigeria and his philosophical and theological studies at The Dominican Institute of Philosophy and Theology. His Master of Arts degree in theology is from Duquesne University. He completed his clinical pastoral education at The Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, and his pastoral care interests are in the areas of cardiovascular surgeries, organ and tissue transplants, and trauma and trauma follow ups. He is a Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) through the National Association of Catholic Chaplains.


Rev. Reggie B. Rowell

Chaplain Reggie Rowell joined MUSC in 2007. A graduate of Wofford College, he received his Master of Divinity and Master of Sacred Theology degrees from Yale University Divinity School. He completed clinical training at Harris Psychiatric Hospital, Anderson, SC and his pastoral education residency at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, WV. He has worked as a parish minister, in community mental health programs and psychiatric hospitals. Reggie is an ordained United Methodist minister, an elder in the South Carolina Annual Conference of the UMC and is endorsed by the United Methodist Church for hospital chaplaincy. His pastoral care interests include medical ethics, mental health issues, family systems theory, palliative care and end of life care.


Rev. Stacy N. Sergent

Chaplain Stacy Sergent came to MUSC in 2008. She holds the Bachelor of Arts degree from Transylvania University and the Master of Divinity from Gardner-Webb University. After a two-year term as a missionary in France, she did her initial unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at Carolinas Medical Center and completed her residency at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. She is an ordained Baptist minister endorsed by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Her areas of interest include ministry to neonatal and pediatric patients and families, grief and loss, and pastoral care of women.


Rev. Gerig M. Huggins

Chaplain Gerig Huggins initially joined our staff as a pool chaplain, serving on an as-needed basis. He became fulltime in 2009, providing overnight coverage for our hospitals. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Bible and Missions from Central Bible College, Springfield, MO, as well as a Master of Missiology, with emphasis in Intercultural Communication from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, Springfield, MO. Rev. Huggins is ordained with the Assemblies of God and has pastored congregations in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. He completed his Clinical Pastoral Education at Roper-St. Francis Hospital system in Charleston. His areas of interest are crisis/ER ministry, thanatology and palliative care.


Ms. Grace C. Close

Administrative Assistant

Grace has been with Pastoral Care Services since 1992. She serves as liaison for MUSC Medical Center with patients, families, faculty/staff, and local clergy addressing pastoral care needs. She provides administrative support to the manager and clinical staff chaplains. Grace is a Roman Catholic Eucharistic Minister and is an active member of the choir at The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Charleston. She also assists patients with Advance Directives and serves as an Ombudsman and Notary Public for the State of South Carolina.
