When are Chaplains available?

A chaplain is available and on-call in the hospital 24/7. You may request pastoral care support by calling 843-792-9464 or calling the hospital operator at 843-792-2123. The on-call chaplain can be paged by dialing 843-792-0590/18089.

What kinds of chaplaincy support services are offered?

A chaplain may be paged anytime a patient, family member or staff member requests. Support services include grief support, end of life care, emergent and crisis situations, support for new diagnoses, prayer, blessings, and sacramental ministry.

Are all faith traditions honored and supported?

Yes, chaplains seek to fully respect the religious and spiritual needs of all. Staff chaplains seek to meet needs as they arise, and there are also instances where specific religious clergy can be called and accessed for patient needs.

Where are the offices for Pastoral Care Services?

Offices are located on the 4th Floor in the main hospital.

Where are the Chapels located?

The primary chapel is located on the 4th floor in the main hospital. This sacred place houses prayer and kneeling benches, a prayer book, and other seating for prayer, reading and meditation. The Rutledge Tower chapel is located on the first floor of Rutledge Tower. Historic St. Luke's Chapel is located on the campus of MUSC, at the corner of Ashley Avenue and Bee Street.

How do I request assistance with Advance Directives?

The Pastoral Care staff can provide you with information about Advance Directives, which include Health Care Power of Attorney (HCPA) and Living Wills. A patient may execute a HCPA to be witnessed by one hospital staff member and another non-family related person. General information regarding Living Wills may be provided at request too.
