General Program Information

The Occupational and Environmental Medicine Program (OEM Program) is one element of the Division of Public Health and Public Service of the Department of Family Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). The Division has a 25 year history of research, education and public service in agricultural, environmental, and occupational medicine.

On July 1, 1993, the OEM Program was established as a project to develop occupational and environmental medicine (OEM) curriculum for the seven family medicine residency sites of the South Carolina Statewide Family Practice Residency Program (SCSFPRP). The training site locations include: Anderson, Charleston, Columbia, Florence, Greenville, Greenwood and Spartanburg. This project was supported in part by the Environmental Hazards Assessment Program of the Medical University of South Carolina through a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. Project leadership was provided by the Environmental Medicine Curriculum Committee which is comprised of at least one faculty member from the seven sites of the SCSFPRP. The mission of the EMCC is to develop OEM curriculum, methods of delivery and strategies for implementation into the three year family medicine curriculum.
