Agromedicine Program Consulting PhysiciansThe Agromedicine Program of the Medical University of South Carolina and Clemson University has established a consulting physician network encompassing all 46 counties in the state and over 130 physicians. Each consulting physician has generously volunteered to be a local resource to the county office of the Cooperative Extension Service for questions on health problems related to agriculture. Each of the consulting physicians provides medical expertise on such issues as acute and chronic pesticide poisoning, botanical effects ( including allergy and toxicity), food quality/ safety, pesticides and birth defects, venomous insect stings, and diet in cancer prevention. These topics are of interest to agromedicine in general, but the local physician is better able to provide advice that is of interest to the local community. In partnership with the Agromedicine Program faculty and staff, the Agromedicine Program Consulting Physicians are a community resource for health related issues. Each physician receives the Agromedicine Program Update, which is published monthly, to provide the latest medical research and unusual diagnoses in the area of rural medicine. The Agromedicine Program staff is also available to assist other South Carolina physicians requesting consultation on agromedicine issues. |
