Charter
The PIC serves as a physician-led subcommittee of the Information
Management Council (IMC). In this role, the PIC provides input to
the IMC regarding the use of digital technologies to improve clinical
activities (quality, safety, & efficiency) across the MUSC enterprise.
The PIC performs – or directs the performance of - tasks and
actions as directed by the IMC. The PIC also works in coordination
with other IMC subcommittees (e.g., Clinical Interdisciplinary Information
Council) and the Medical Executive Committee of the MUSC Medical Staff.
Functions
The PIC, working in close partnership with the IMC and other groups/participants
in the MUSC IT Governance process, performs the following functions:
- Assists with the formulation and articulation of a vision for
the deployment and use of digital technologies related to MUSC’s
clinical enterprise (particularly activities involving direct patient
care).
- Helps IMC develop and maintain a “roadmap” for MUSC’s
future educational, research, and clinical environments, featuring
the role of information and IT in enabling desired future-state
operations
- Recommends to the IMC major IT procurement, funding and cost allocation
decisions and strategies.
- Helps establish, maintain, assess, and continuously improve standards,
policies and mechanisms for: 1) managing clinical information investments;
2) assessing performance and results; 4) promoting best practices;
and 3) sharing lessons learned throughout the organization.
- Resolves significant clinical IT issues, or if necessary presents
to the IMC concise, well-researched decision briefs, with appropriate
recommendations.
- Ensures that appropriate and cost-effective information protection
measures are applied to information and IT assets.
- Provides oversight for and serves as champions for clinical IT
projects as assigned by IMC. Ensures that post-implementation project
reviews are conducted, that expected project benefits are realized,
and that the governance process benefits from lessons learned.
- Provides minutes and updates to the Medical Executive Committee.
