Charter
The Clinical Interdisciplinary Information Council (CIIC) serves
as a subcommittee of the Information Management Council (IMC). In
this role, the CIIC provides input to the IMC regarding the use of
digital technologies to improve clinical activities (quality, safety,
& efficiency) related to the Medical Center operations. The CIIC
performs – or directs the performance of - tasks and actions
as directed by the IMC, as well as coordinating closely with the activities
of the Physician Information Council.
Functions
The CIIC, working in close partnership with the IMC and other groups/participants
in the MUSC IT Governance process, performs the following functions:
- Assists with the formulation and articulation of a vision for
the deployment and use of digital technologies related to Medical
Center operations, particularly related to clinical documentation
and medication safety in patient care areas. This includes input
to the training, system and workflow design, order set development,
and implementation of the point-of-care systems
- Helps IMC develop and maintain a “roadmap” for MUSC’s
future educational, research, and clinical environments, featuring
the role of information and IT in enabling desired future-state
operations in the Medical Center.
- Helps review and recommend to the IMC major IT procurement, funding
and cost allocation decisions and strategies, as needed.
- Helps establish, maintain, assess, and continuously improve standards,
policies and mechanisms in the Medical Center for: 1) managing clinical
information investments; 2) assessing performance and results; 4)
promoting best practices; and 3) sharing lessons learned.
- Helps resolve significant Medical Center clinical work flow and
IT issues, or if necessary presents to the IMC concise, well-researched
decision briefs, with appropriate recommendations.
- Ensures that appropriate and cost-effective information protection
measures are applied to information and IT assets in the Medical
Center.
- Provides oversight for and serves as champions for Medical Center
clinical IT projects, as assigned by IMC. Ensures that post-implementation
project reviews are conducted, that expected project benefits are
realized, and that the governance process benefits from lessons
learned.
