MUSC Nursing Collaborative

With the leadership of the College of Nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina, a number of academic and clinical organizations from across the state are proactively collaborating to address the nursing shortage and to improve the quality of health care provided in South Carolina.

Purpose:

Increase the number of baccalaureate, masters and doctorally prepared nurses in South Carolina
  • Positively impact clinical care-giving environments

Outcomes:

  • The number of students enrolled in the MUSC College of Nursing’s accelerated  BSN program doubled from 50 students a year to 100 graduating students each year.
  • An online RN to BSN curriculum was made available in the fall of 2003 that enables registered nurses in the state to obtain their bachelor’s degree without leaving their current nursing position.  Providing these nurses with the opportunity to receive a BSN online improves the quality of nursing care in the state.
  • Other online curricula have been developed and have been made available to enable working nurses to obtain master’s degrees to prepare them as advanced practice nurses.  In fall 2006, the MUSC PhD in Nursing program was placed entirely online.
