Online Programs

The MUSC online programs are designed to meet the needs of today's nurse who needs flexibility and convenience in learning.  We have online programs in all degree levels:  the BSN, the MSN, and PhD.  All courses can be completed at a distance, as long as the student has access to high speed internet, is computer literate, and has self-direction to actively participate in the learning process. The College's out-of-state tuition for online programs is only 10% over the in-state tuition, making these programs affordable.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program

Online RN-BSN
This program is designed to meet the learning needs of registered nurses who want to acquire the BSN in just nine courses. Students make one visit to the Charleston campus at the start of the program for orientation.  Full time coursework is divided over three semesters and completed within a year. Part-time plans are developed on an individual basis with a faculty advisor.

Master of Science in Nursing Programs

Online RN-MSN
This program is designed to prepare nurses who do not have their BSN degrees for master's level work, and then guides them into their chosen advanced practice field of study.  Student's do not earn the BSN degree but graduate with the MSN, prepared in the specialty of their choice.

Online Nursing Administration
This master's program specialty provides graduates with the skills to manage health services delivery with a multi-million dollar budget. Graduates are prepared to practice in a variety of health care settings, initiate positive changes in health services delivery, and collaborate in interdisciplinary teams.

Online Nursing Administration/MBA Dual Degree Program
Beginning spring 2007, the College of Nursing will partner with the University of South Carolina Moore School of Business to offer a Nurse Administrator/MBA dual degree.   Graduates are uniquely educated and highly marketable for today's health care environment.

Online Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
This graduate program prepares nurses for advanced practice in the high-risk neonatal setting, and to sit for certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP). Courses focus on the management of primary and intensive care of the high-risk neonate. Care and management of infants and children up to the age of two is included.

Online Nurse Educator
This graduate program is designed to develop Nurse Educators (NE). Students learn innovative teaching strategies such as online and distance education teaching as well as course and curriculum development. Graduates are prepared to teach in clinical specialty areas in and out of the hospital settings, in traditional classroom settings and in cyber and distance education class settings.

Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing
This graduate program prepares nurses to work effectively in the contemporary mental health care system. The program is focussed on evidence-based psychiatric care that is delivered in both psychiatric and primary care settings.  Graduates are eligible to sit for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner exam.

Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Program

Online PhD in Nursing
The PhD in Nursing program is designed to prepare nurses for careers that require scholarship and research.  Our graduates are prepared to be leaders in improving health care and seek positions in social, governmental, and health care organizations as well as within academic settings.  Both post-BSN and post-MSN applicants are eligible for admission, with programs of study individually tailored to meet the applicant's career goals.
