Thank you, Associate Dean for Academics, Graduate Programs Director New or Revised CON Policies Graduate Progression A MSN student must earn a grade of 3.0 in each nursing course. If a student earns a grade of less than 3.0 in a course, the student is placed on academic probation for one semester and must repeat the course. (Approved Faculty Assembly, April 17, 2006) Pagers and Cell Phones on Silent or Chirp To create an environment that is most conducive to learning, all College of Nursing faculty, staff and students are to place their phones and pagers on the silent or chirp mode at all times. (Approved Faculty Assembly, October 16, 2006) Participation Policy A student who does not participate in a class for three consecutive weeks will be automatically dropped from the course. A definition of class participation will be provided in every course syllabus. (Approved Faculty Assembly, November 20, 2006) BSN/MSN progression An accelerated BSN/MSN student earning less than a 2.0 in an undergraduate nursing course must exit the program with a BSN degree, is not eligible to take any MSN courses in the fourth semester, and must reapply to the MSN program. (Approved by Faculty Assembly 2007) Graduation Requirements All graduation requirements must be completed prior to participation in convocation and graduation. (Approved by Faculty Assembly January 2007) Student Arrest Policy Should a student be arrested or formally charged with any infraction of the law other than minor traffic violations and misdemeanors, the offending student shall report such violation or changes to his or her respective Dean within two university/college business days of the offense. The Dean will determine an appropriate corrective or punitive action and grant the student an opportunity to be heard. After consultation of the Dean with the Provost, the decision of the Dean will be final. (Approved by the Deans' Council, January 9, 2007) MSN Graduate Student Exit Survey All MSN students must complete the MSN Graduate Student Exit Survey during their last clinical course (Residency or practicum course). A final course grade will not be released until the survey is completed. (Approved by Faculty Assembly May 8, 2007) Student Professional Leadership Nursing students enrolled in any of the MUSC College of Nursing programs are expected to demonstrate professional leadership activities as part of their learning experience. Professional leadership is defined as active participation and progressive responsibility in organized activities related to nursing, health care, or education. This implies more than membership in organizations and students are expected to serve on committees, seek elected office, participate in scholarly activities, or take active roles on task forces. (Approved by Faculty Assembly May 2007) CPR Certification MUSC College of Nursing will not accept the PRO-CPR online certification. (Approved by APG Committee, June 2007)

- NURSU 363 Professional Writing and Computing Skills has been deleted from the RN-BSN plans of study. Please check with advisor for any changes in your individual plans of study.
- NURSU 409 Population Focused Nursing for RN-BSN and RN-MSN students was moved to spring semester please check with your advisor prior to registering. (Approved by Faculty Assembly, 2007)
New Dress Code Policy Doctoral Students: Progression in the Doctoral Program (PhD) is based on the following policies: For any doctoral course, a merit grade of less than 3.0, a “WF”, or “F” is considered failing, and the course must be repeated with an earned grade of 3.0 or greater or “Pass”. If a student earns less than a 3.0 merit grade, a “WF”, or “F” in a second doctoral course, the student is dismissed from the program. (Approved by Doctoral Committee September 25, 2007)
Doctoral (PhD): The Doctoral Program Committee will recommend to the Director of the Doctoral Program that a student be dismissed from the program if the student:
Has a GPA that indicates the student will not be able to meet the 3.0 requirement for graduation or has failed two courses. Does not complete requirements for the degree within an 8-year period after initial registration for the doctoral program. (Doctoral additions-approved by Doctoral Committee September 25, 2007)
