Welcome to the website for the Gamma Omicron Chapter at large of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Gamma Omicron Chapter was chartered at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing on April 14, 1978, with Alpha Chapter, Indiana University, as the sponsoring chapter. The charter members consisted of 76 new members and 13 transfer members. Over the past 25 years, 1348 members have been inducted into the chapter. On April 14, 2003, in the effort of collaboration between the Medical University of South Carolina College Of Nursing, and Charleston Southern University Derry Patterson Wingo School of Nursing Gamma Omicron At-Large Chapter was chartered. Gamma Omicron chapter at large has a long and distinguished history of providing leadership to the profession of nursing, including supporting nursing education, scholarship, and service. We are a network of dedicated nursing professionals who are willing to share their expertise and knowledge with others. More about the chapter's history... Jennifer Shearer, Gamma Omicron at-Large member and Vice President, traveled to Ethiopia in June 2008 for the purpose of meeting prospective partners for a student cultural immersion experience. Please read about her global experience. Jennifer will be returning in May and is asking for donations of educational materials (any clinical supplies, teaching models, tools, including software). Membership in Sigma Theta Tau is an honor conferred on students in baccalaureate and graduate programs who have demonstrated excellence in their nursing programs. Graduates of a baccalaureate program who have demonstrated excellence in nursing leadership are eligible for membership consideration.
