Telephone: (843) 792-4616 Fax: (843) 792-2099 stroudsd@musc.edu | | Dr. Stroud is Associate Dean and Director of the Graduate Programs at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing. She received her diploma of nursing from University Hospitals and Clinics in Birmingham, Alabama in 1968. She worked as a staff nurse and critical care nurse for 7 years before returning to school to receive her bachelor of science in nursing from Columbus College, Columbus, Georgia. She completed a master of science in nursing specializing in medical surgical nursing from Vanderbilt University in 1978. Following graduation, she worked as the critical care coordinator for East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama for two years. In 1981, when Auburn University started it’s school of nursing, she began teaching undergraduate nursing students. In 1987, she completed her doctorate in education at Auburn University with a major in educational administration and leadership. She became a faculty member at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1987 where she taught undergraduate and graduate adult health students until 1991. She served as Director of Research for the Houston Immunological Institute located in Houston, Texas from 1991 until 1993, where she supervised clinical trials for HIV and chronic fatigue drugs. She has been a faculty member at Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing since 1993. In 1996, she completed the adult nurse practitioner post master’s program at Medical University of South Carolina and is a certified adult nurse practitioner. Currently, she provides lower extremity and foot care services in an internal medicine clinic on the university campus. | Dr. Stroud has been very active in Sigma Theta Tau, serving as president of three local chapters and several regional committees. She is a member of the National Nurse Practitioner Faculty organization, American Nurses Association and the Lowcountry Advanced Practice Nurses Society. | Dr. Stroud’s research interests include nursing education, use of handhelds by nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner students and foot care. |
