Dr. Kathleen Simon received a Bachelor's of Science degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, a Master's of Science degree in childrearing-childbearing family nursing from the University of Minnesota, and a Doctor of Nursing Science degree from Boston University. She joined the faculty of the College of Nursing in 1988, having taught previously at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the University of Minnesota, Wayne State University, Madonna College, and Boston University. She is currently the Track Coordinator for the Nurse Educator track in the Master's Program. Teaching responsibilities focus on nursing care of children and families, professional nursing issues, and nursing education in the undergraduate and master's programs. She is a member of sigma Theta Tau International, the Society of Pediatric Nurses, and the American Nurses Association. Dr. Simon's research interests include children's coping with stressful life events (hospitalization), the impact of acute and chronic illnesses for children and their families (sickle cell disease), and the use of drawing and therapeutic play as assessment and nursing intervention with children. Publications and presentations have been related to therapeutic play, children's drawings, and children with sickle cell disease. |
